The Hardeman County Animal Control responded to a trailer in Pocahontas, where they witnessed animals in poor health and in inhumane conditions, according to Animal Rescue Corps, who rescued all 33 animals, including 29 dogs and four cats.
“We arrived just in time,” said Tim Woodward, ARC’s Executive Director. “This was a life and death situation for some of these animals; we didn’t have a minute to spare.”
The animals are suffering from a range of medical issues, including broken bones, anemia, ammonia exposure, mange, severe disease, overgrown nails, fur loss, skin inflammation, ear and eye infections/ injuries, and internal and external parasites. Rescuers also found cats living in small feces and maggot-filled crates.
All the animals will be taken to ARC’s rescue center in Gallatin for rehabilitation and ultimately adoption.
Pocahontas is about 75 miles East of Memphis.
